Moissanit wurde ursprünglich 1893 in Meteoriten entdeckt. Da er in der Natur praktisch nicht in Schmuckqualität vorkommt, wird er heute hochwertig im Labor hergestellt. Er überzeugt durch sein stärkeres Funkeln und Feuer, als bei Diamanten. Gleichzeitig ist Moissanite fast so hart wie Diamant und damit perfekt für den Alltag geeignet.
Weißgold enthält einen natürlichen warmen Goldton, da Gold selbst gelb ist. An Stellen, die weniger direkt vom Licht erreicht werden, kann die Kamera diesen warmen Ton stärker darstellen, obwohl das Schmuckstück in Wirklichkeit auch dort weiß erscheint.

Während Diamanten für ihr klassisches, ruhiges Funkeln bekannt sind, zeigt Moissanite häufig ein dynamischeres und farbenreicheres Regenbogen-Lichtspiel.

Mit einer Härte von etwa 9,25 auf der Mohs-Skala liegt Moissanit direkt hinter Diamanten (10) und zählt damit zu den härtesten Edelsteinen der Welt. Dadurch ist er sehr widerstandsfähig gegen Kratzer und behält auch bei regelmäßigem Tragen seine Brillanz.
