What is Moissanite Jewelry?
Where does moissanite come from?
Moissanite was first discovered in 1893 by French chemist Henri Moissan in the "Canyon Diablo" meteorite crater in Arizona – a gemstone literally from the stars. Today, moissanite is grown in laboratories under controlled conditions to offer the same exceptional brilliance – more sustainably, conflict-free, and with a cosmic origin.
Why does moissanite sparkle more than diamond?
Moissanite has a higher refractive index (2.65) than diamond (2.42) and also has double refraction. This results in stronger color play, more intense fire, and more light reflections – the sparkle of moissanite is clearly visible, especially with movement or changes in light. Is moissanite jewelry durable for everyday wear?
Yes, absolutely, moissanite is one of the most durable gemstones available. With a hardness of 9.25 on the Mohs scale, it is second only to diamond at 10. This ensures that moissanite jewelry remains durable, robust, and sparkling for a long time, even with everyday wear – ideal for carefree daily use.
In comparison, softer gemstones like cubic zirconia often show fine scratches much more quickly and lose clarity and sparkle over time.
Moissanite jewellery requires no maintenance
Moissanite jewelry is very easy to care for and retains its stunning brilliance without elaborate cleaning. Moissanite rings can easily be washed while washing your hands, while moissanite earrings can simply be rinsed off in the shower.
If you want to polish your jewelry back to a high shine, you can wipe the stones with a clean paper towel – this is exactly how our photos are created. For a more thorough cleaning, a soft brush together with a water bath is suitable to make even the finest details shine again.
An ultrasonic device is usually not necessary, as careful cleaning with water and a soft brush usually achieves better results. You can find more tips in our blog post "How to Properly Clean Moissanite Jewelry".

This way, you see the Moissanite as realistically and transparently as possible, with no surprises. Nevertheless, the intense fire and sparkle can never be fully captured in photos – with your own eyes, Moissanite in real light often appears even more vibrant and sparkles more intensely.
