Moissanite has a higher refractive index and stronger dispersion (fire/rainbow) than diamonds. In addition, moissanite has double refraction – a property that diamonds do not possess. This causes incoming light to be split and directed in a special way within the stone. In combination with the higher dispersion, more intense light reflections, visible flashes of color, and a livelier sparkle are produced.
