Moissanite has a higher refractive index and greater dispersion (fire/rainbow) than diamonds. In addition, moissanite exhibits double refraction – a property that diamonds do not possess. This causes incoming light to be split and transmitted in a special way within the stone. In combination with the higher dispersion, more intense light reflections, visible flashes of color, and a more vibrant sparkle are created.
